Advice for Parents

Project Maths was introduced to make the Leaving Cert Mathematics more meaningful and less predictable. Your child has to learn to THINK. This is hard to teach, but nevertheless it is the aim of education.

Project Maths involves more problem solving. These problems are written in English. It’s important for your child to be clear and thorough in the way they express their findings and conclusions. Again, this is hard to teach. You can help by talking to your child, discussing politics or issues, putting your side in a reasoned and well-expressed way. Then listen to their opinions. This helps students to be articulate, to express themselves well, to develop logical argument, to think clearly. This is all part of the way we teach maths these days.
